Biography
Sofia is a ESRC PhD Candidate in the Department of Economics. She holds a BA in Economics and Finance from the University of Pisa and a M.Sc. in Economics jointly awarded by the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies and the University of Pisa. Sofia also got an Advanced Diploma in Economics and Management from the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies in Pisa, where she was awarded a 5 years merit-based national scholarship in 2011.
Sofia has been a visiting student at the South African Research Chair in Industrial Development of the University of Johannesburg and at Vienna Institute for International Economic Studies (wiiw). She has also undertaken intensive training courses at the Kiel Institute for the World Economy, the London School of Economics and Political Science and the Barcelona Graduate School of Economics.
Prior to joining the Department of Economics at SOAS, Sofia worked as an Economist at the Trade and Markets Division of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (UNFAO). During her Master, she interned with the Investment and Technology Promotion Office of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), with the Economic Affairs Office at the Italian Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York and with the Economic and Fiscal Studies Unit at the Italian Ministry of Economic Affairs and Finance (MEF).
