Research interests

Sofia is carrying out her PhD research at SOAS University of London, and her research topic focuses on the means to disseminate Progressive Islam and Islamic feminism to lay believers.

Sofia is also a lecturer of Islamic Studies at the Foundation of International Education (FiE) in London and a supervisor of MA Dissertations at SOAS University of London.  

Sofia has two publications: 

  1. "Khaled Abou El Fadl and Amina Wadud's (re)politicisation of the mosque and employment of social media as a means of shaping religious identity based on values of progressive Islam", published in 2020 in the journal Contemporary Islam. 
  2. "Artificial Intelligence on Sunni Islam's Fatwa Issuance in Dubai and Egypt", published in 2022 in the journal Islamic Inquiries.   

Sofia has a vivid presence, as a keynote speaker, in international academic conferences related to Islamic Studies since 2020:
