Biography
Xuemeng Zhang is an MPhil/PhD student in China and Inner Asia Studies at SOAS, University of London.
Her research focuses on contemporary Chinese poetry, particularly its intersections with Artificial Intelligence. Her broader academic interests include translation studies, creative literary pedagogy, and intermediality. Xuemeng earned a Bachelor of Literature in Chinese Language and Literature from Jinan University and a Master’s degree in Arts, Creativity, and Education from the University of Cambridge, where she graduated with distinction. Her MPhil dissertation explored the untranslatability of Chinese and English poetry and its performative dynamics between human translators and machine translation.
In addition to her academic pursuits, Xuemeng is an accomplished poet and curator. She has published two poetry collections, Night Hunter’s Ode and Theatre’s Notes, and her poems, critiques, and interviews have appeared in over 20 literary journals and magazines in both China and the UK. As a curator, she is particularly interested in the interplay between poetry and contemporary art.
Her curatorial projects have been featured at the Art Nova 100 Annual Exhibition (Beijing, 2021) and Art Jingyang (Deyang, 2022).
