Youkyung Ju-Zaveroni is a Lecturer in Korean Language at SOAS University of London. She completed an MSc in Applied Linguistics at the University of Edinburgh and a PhD in Korean Applied Linguistics at SOAS.

She is a Korean language specialist with expertise in second language acquisition and digital language pedagogy. Additionally, she is a professional Korean language teacher with over 20 years of experience teaching Korean to migrant children and foreign speakers in Korea and the UK. Prior to joining SOAS, she taught Korean at Sogang University in Seoul and contributed to the development of the Korean language textbook series "New Sogang Korean" as a lead translator.

She has also taught Korean at King’s College London and the London School of Economics and Political Science. She is a member of both the European Association for Language Testing and Assessment (EALTA) and the UK Association for Language Testing and Assessment (UKALTA).

Youkyung’s research focuses on digital humanities and pedagogy, media discourse analysis, and second language acquisition. Her recent work includes aligning Korean with the CEFR for digital language education, discourse analysis of K-pop tweets on X, and corpus-based linguistic studies on narratives surrounding Covid-19 in Korean migrant communities in the UK, as well as disaster management related to the Sewol Ferry Disaster in Korea.
