Biography

Yuying Zhu (they/them) is in their first year of the SOAS-Wits Joint MPhil/PhD Applied Development Economics program.

Prior to beginning their MPhil at SOAS, they worked as a Research Assistant for Dr. Sara Stevano and Dr. Alessandra Mezzadri for their research on the use of social reproduction across different disciplines. Prior to this year, they completed their MSc in Political Economy of Development at SOAS and a BA in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from the University of Oxford.

Their research looks to how domestic platform workers in South Africa can be analysed in a class relational framework and from the perspective of class struggle.
