Doctoral School Grants

As part of Early Career Researcher development, SOAS offers funding to PhD students for language acquisition training grants, conference grants, student-led initiative grants, and fieldwork grants. The Doctoral School grants are rolled out at different times of the academic year.

Fieldwork Grants

The Fieldwork Grant Application process goes live in September and October with notifications occurring in November.   The Doctoral School will contact all eligible students on the day the grant application round opens, outcomes will be communicated within a month of the respective deadlines.

Please note: The Fieldwork Grant application process is now closed for this academic year. First-year research students will be eligible to apply for funding next September.

Language Acquisition Training Grants, Conference Grants and Student-Led Initiative Grants

Language Acquisition Training Grants, Conference Grants, and Student-Led Initiative Grants are rolled out at the end of Term One and again at the End of Term Two.

All Applications must be made via an online form, and no longer on PhD Manager. Any applications already made on PhD Manager will not be approved. This does not mean that your application has been rejected, but that you will need to resubmit your application via the relevant online form.

Please Note: All grants are reimbursed upon submission of receipts after the award has been granted.

If you have questions regarding the grant application process, please contact a member of the Doctoral School team via email at doctoralschool@soas.ac.uk and a member of the team will be happy to assist you.
