2024/25
The University of London Scholars Programme has been established for 2023/24 academic year in support of UoL’s strategy to help young people across London flourish. The Bursary is designed to help support students with the greatest financial need.
Number of Scholarships available: 3 awards of £10,000. To be allocated evenly across the length of the course. (ie, £3,330.33 per year for a 3-year degree, or £2,500 per year for a 4-year foundation degree), £0 in Language year abroad or in any repeat years.
Eligibility criteria
- You must have applied to or been accepted on to a first year of a full-time undergraduate/foundation degree course at SOAS which commencing in 2024/25
- You must ordinarily be a resident in England and a Home student for fee purposes.
- You must be a new student and should not already hold a first degree or higher qualification
- Must be in receipt of a full tuition loan from Student Finance England.
- Cannot hold along with any other scholarship award (excluding SOAS Bursary).
Selection criteria
Candidates will be selected using a points-based assessment with following criteria considered.
- Ethnicity*
- Household income assessment from Student Finance.
- Students with experience of care and estranged students.
- Students who are first in their family to go to university **
- Students from low participation neighbourhoods.***
Please note that the listed criteria alone will not guarantee this award. Additional information may be collected from UCAS and Student Finance applications or requested from students in support of the selection process.
Notes
* Applications accepted from all ethnicities. Additional points awarded for ethnic minorities.
** 'First’ means an applicant’s parents, step-parents or guardians did not attend university. This is self-declared data which applicants include in their UCAS application form. If you are the first generation in your family to attend a higher education institution you must declare this in your UCAS application to be considered for this award.
*** Low participation neighbourhoods’ are areas identified using data of the participation rate of young people in higher education by ward or region. This information is included with an applicant’s UCAS application form.

Scholarship application deadline
Online Scholarship Form must be submitted within the deadline on the 30 September 2024 by 12pm (UK local time). Incomplete applications or applications submitted after the deadline will not be considered.
Notification of results
The scholarship shortlisting and awarding period is expected to be completed by the end of October 2024, at the earliest. Successful candidates will be contacted first and once all awards have been allocated, the unsuccessful candidates will be notified.
