About this event

SOAS Arbitration and Dispute Resolution Centre (SADRC) is happy to announce that we will host the career themed event for students and young practitioners!

This event will feature a fireside chat with Tolu Obamuroh and Rachel Chiu, associates at White & Case and visiting fellows of the SADRC. They will share their personal journeys in international arbitration, offer insights into the evolving landscape of the field, and provide practical tips and advice on how to seek out opportunities and build a successful career in international arbitration.

Anyone is welcome but registration is required.

About the speakers

Rachel Chiu is an Associate at White & Case's International Arbitration Group in London.

Rachel's practice is focused on international arbitration. She represents clients in a broad range of sectors, such as energy (including oil and gas and renewables), transport infrastructure and financial services. Rachel has experience of arbitrations conducted under most major institutional regimes and under various governing laws, with a specific emphasis on English and Singapore law. Rachel also regularly provides counsel on strategy for dispute avoidance and resolution.

Rachel is a visiting fellow at the SOAS Arbitration and Dispute Resolution Centre, and a guest tutor at SOAS University of London's International Commercial Arbitration Course. She is also co-founder and co-chair of Young Mute-Off Thursdays, a weekly knowledge sharing and networking forum for young women practitioners in international arbitration.

Tolu Obamuroh is an Associate in the International Arbitration Group in Paris. He advises clients in complex disputes in a variety of sectors, with a particular focus on the construction and energy industries, and has a broad range of experience across these sectors. Tolu has represented clients from South and North America, West and East Europe, and Africa in major international arbitrations.

In addition to writing frequently on topics related to international arbitration, he regularly teaches international arbitration at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, and the CY Paris school of Law.

Prior to joining White & Case, Tolu was the Associate General Counsel of the Lagos Court of Arbitration.

In 2022, the Africa Arbitration Academy recognized him as one of "Africa's 30 Most Promising Practitioners".
