Dr Rachel Harrison (Thai Cultural Studies), Dr Lindiwe Dovey (Film Studies) and Dr Rahul Rao (Politics & Queer Theory) will be discussing Apichatpong's recent output, including short clips. This will be followed by a convened Q&A with the Film Director himself. Anyone with specific questions should email them to the SOAS Thai Society

There will be a pre-event reception at 6pm. We are also extremely grateful to Beer Singha for kindly providing us with Thai beer for a pre-event reception starting from 6pm. The discussion and Q&A session will be between 7-9pm.

Biography

Apichatpong Weerastakul’s recent cinematographic output includes the Palme d'Or winner at Cannes Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives - ลุงบุญมีระลึกชาติ, The Cannes Jury Prize winner Tropical Malady - สัตว์ประหลาด - and Syndromes and a Century - แสงศตวรรษ - which was premiered at the 63rd Venice Film Festival - the first Thai film to be entered in competition there. He was invested as a Chevalier (Knight) of the Order of Arts & Letters by France, and is a recipient of the Silpathorn Prize of Thailand.
