COVID-19 in Africa: An opportunity for structural transformation? (Webinar)

The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed the structural deficits across all countries globally. In the UK, conversations around the emerging disproportionate impact on black and ethnic minority communities, inadequate testing capacity and personal protective equipment illustrate that wealth does not enable lesser casualties and facilitate better strategy. In effect, it has called to question the logic and therefore efficacy of neoliberal governance arrangements. In turning to Africa, this webinar reflects on African countries' responses to COVID-19 and the opportunity it offers to catalyse action on structural deficits. Rather than a focus on the nature of responses, we ask how these responses can trigger long term shifts in universal access to water, health, education, communication infrastructure among other fundamental socio-economic and political pathways to equity.
