About this event
Yannis Dafermos, SOAS University of London
This is part of a webinar series co-organised by the SOAS Department of Economics and the SOAS Open Economics Forum. The aim of the series is to provide a critical perspective to the recent economic developments related to the COVID-19 crisis.
Speaker: Yannis Dafermos, SOAS University of London
Moderator: Anna Vergnano, SOAS University of London
This webinar provides a brief critical account of the state of climate policies before the pandemic. It then focuses on the lessons that we are learning from the COVID-19 crisis about the design of climate policies and why these lessons should lead to a radical rethink of the way that the climate crisis is addressed. The webinar also discusses how the recent macroeconomic policies that have been implemented as a response to the pandemic can be adjusted such that they contribute to a sustained reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. Scenarios about the way that climate policies could look like in a post-COVID-19 world are also briefly discussed.
