About this event

A Documentary-based Workshop on Media and Mental Health. In this award-winning documentary screening and interactive panel discussion, students learn from personal stories of coping with mental health issues; and how music and other art forms act as a medium for processing and regulating emotions -- trauma, grief, anxiety, depression, and stress. During the lockdown, the language of art proved to be empowering and enabled one to connect with the inner world of emotions. The UK-based mental health charity Sangeet Foundation, leapt forward to take their collected stories built over the years, since 2015, through their journey and collections from hundreds of public events to constitute a social documentary directed by Dr Sagarika Golder. The documentary-making (20 mins) creates new conversations on media and mental health followed by an interactive panel discussion (40 mins) on leveraging music and the arts, especially among the South Asian diaspora.

Chair/discussant: Dr Sanjukta Ghosh (SOAS), Dr Indrani Lahiri (De Montfort University), Jayanta Ray (Trustee of Sangeet Foundation) and Dr Pushpinder Chowdhry (UK Asian Film Festival)
