About this event

In this second lecture of the monthly Indian Art Circle lecture series 2024-25, Professor Jaś Elsner (Humfry Payne Senior Research Fellow in Classical Archaeology and Art, Corpus Christi College, University of Oxford) will discuss the findings of his new book, Amarāvatī: Art and Buddhism in Ancient India (Reaktion, 2024).

This provides a fresh perspective on the rich visual culture of ancient South Asia viewed through the lens of art history, connecting the stupa’s artistic innovations with advancements in Buddhist philosophy and rituals
