Synopsis

An ordinary person, in an ordinary society, was forced to disobedience and as a result she has endured much pain and suffering.

In November 2008, a storm called the “Red Martial Law” stunned the whole Taiwanese community who believed they were living in a “democratic county”. The arrival of the Chinese envoy, Chen Yunlin, sparked civil unrest - the national flag of Republic of China was confiscated, the voices of dissent were muted, the protesters were removed and President Ma became “You.”

As time passes, this collective memory has gradually faded from the public’s mind. The ruling party has become more and more powerful and democracy is increasingly threatened. However, there is still a group of people engaged in legal action, civic education and social movements who keep fighting to resist the fall of democracy, fighting for the right to protest, fighting for the right to civil disobedience!

This documentary, Civil Disobedience, records the events of civil unrest following the “Red Martial Law” in 2008. It tells the story of the abuses suffered by civilians in the hands of the authorities, of how state power has rapidly advanced to undermine civic rights and it investigates the problems of being educated to be “obedient.”

隨著時間流逝，這幅集體記憶的圖像在大眾心中逐漸模糊遺忘，台灣民主被「紅色戒嚴」衝破的底線，隨著越來越緊的社會控制而持續倒退。然而，仍有一群人不懈的透過司法訴訟、公民教育、社會運動來抵抗民主倒退，爭取公民不服從的權利！

《公民不服從》記錄 2008 年「紅色戒嚴」至今，受害民眾對官方的控訴、國家權力對公民權力的進逼，並思考「服從」教育的問題。

Director's Bio

Chen Yu-Ching was born in 1975, and studied film production at CinéCréatis, Nantes, France. Her work focuses on human rights, human condition and environmental issues, and she would like to use aesthetics, words, images and various media to make the world a better place. She is a freelance film maker.

陳育青， 1975 年生，於法國南特 CINECREATIS 電影學院研修電影製作。主要關懷和創作方向為人權、人的處境、環境問題，希望以美學、文字、影像與各種媒材來實踐理想，現為自由影像工作者 。
