Synopsis

“The Loser” is a film about three interconnected characters – Show, Shine, and Pan – in Meinong, a Hakka district of Kaohsiung City, where the land is slowly being bought off piecemeal by developers and estate agents.

Failing to fulfill his dream as an actor in Taipei, Show comes home to Meinong to start again. However, he finds it hard to settle back down as a ‘simple farmer’; Leading a seemingly luxurious lifestyle, Shine has been confined in her husband Tian’s grand villa and trapped in a loveless marriage; Bored by the small town, Shine’s son Pan is eager to leave after his graduation from junior high school, and the only thing detains him is his attraction to May, a classmate who tried to better herself by studying hard. Pan tells his father about the affairs between Show and Shine, and Tian uses the opportunity to threaten Show to sell his farmland…

美濃近年被土地掮客入侵，農地上出現一棟棟突兀的別墅。選擇回來種田的秀仔，發現在土地炒作的狂潮中，已難再回到原點，單純作個農夫。而異鄉人美霞就住在丈 夫添進買下的一間別墅裡，內心彷彿也被困住了，直到她與秀仔重逢才有所轉變。她的兒子阿泮仔國中就要畢業了，整天除了鬼混也不知還能做什麼。這裡唯一讓他 眷戀的大概只有玉梅，班上一個美麗的女孩，一心想改變自己的命運，不希望自己跟她那染上毒癮的慣竊老爸一樣。

就在秀仔與美霞的往來愈見熱絡之際，阿泮仔也逐漸察覺兩人間不尋常的關係，於是決定設計他倆，讓他們的姦情被父親抓個正著。不料添進早就不願維繫這段婚姻了，反以此來要脅，希望能買下秀仔家那塊地，交換撤銷通姦的告訴…

About the Director

Lou Yi-an’s works focus on the life of the working class and immigrants. His TV drama Bon Voyage, completed in 2005, won the Best Director in the Golden Bell Awards. Lou is renowned for his clever use of dark comedy to accentuate social problems. His short film Waterfront Villa Bonita was a dark comedy, which had been well-received world-wide. Lou’s first feature film A Place of One’s Own (2009), continues this style, which had also won him many awards such as Audience Choice Award in Taipei Film Festival.

樓 一安，台灣電影編導，作品多與中下階層之生命經歷相關。05年拍攝的電視電影《快樂的出航》，獲台灣金鐘獎多項提名及最佳導演等兩大獎。07年的電影短片 「水岸麗景」，獲邀參加克萊蒙費宏短片影展，並以詼諧幽默的獨特風格成功售出歐洲版權。09年得到台灣優良電影劇本獎的《一席之地》，則是樓一安首部電影 劇情長片，作品延續過去多線敘事與黑色風格，在台北電影節獲得觀眾票選獎等三大獎項肯定。
