Pakistan's Political Parties: Surviving between Dictatorship and Democracy (First & Second Panel)

Please join SOAS South Asia Institute and Folio Books for the book launch of Pakistan’s Political Parties: Between Dictatorship and Democracy . First published by Georgetown University Press in 2020, it has been reissued in 2021 for the Pakistani market by Folio Books .

This volume is a one-of-a-kind resource for anyone searching for a comprehensive overview of Pakistan's party system and its unlikely survival in the face of an interventionist military. It contains significant contributions by SOAS alumni as well as current research associates and doctoral researchers.

The Zoom panel discussions will feature presentations by the authors in light of the peaceful transfer of power in the 2018 elections and what has transpired since, followed by questions and answers.

Our first panel event will be held on Tuesday, February 16th at 3pm GMT , featuring contributing authors Dr. Tabinda Khan, Dr. Sameen Mohsin, Dr. Yasser Kureshi and Dr. Ayesha Siddiqa who will speak on the PTI, the role of the bureaucracy, the judiciary and military with regards to the party system.

Our second panel event will be held on Wednesday, February 17th at 3pm GMT , and features contributing authors Prof. Sahar Shafqat, Prof. Saeed Shafqat, Prof. Philip Jones, and Johann Chacko speaking on the role of the opposition, the PML-N, the PPP and the religious parties respectively.
