About this event

The 6th Annual SAAAP In-Region Workshop

SOAS will partner with the Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) to gather contributions to a volume III of the ground-breaking anthology series The Creative South: Buddhist and Hindu Art in Mediaeval maritime Asia.

The workshop aims to sustain the Southeast Asian Art Academic Programme (SAAAP) strategic aim of setting standards for joint anthologies with regional partners, including universities, museums and conservation bodies, and to engage Alphawood alumni in expanding both local and worldwide appreciation of the art and architecture of the ancient to pre-modern cultures of Southeast Asia.

The workshop will be run jointly by SAAAP and UGM Vice Dean Mimi Savitri (SOAS alumna), with support from Emma Natalya Stein, curator at the National Museum of Asian Art, Smithsonian, Washington, who is negotiating a related exhibition of Tantric Javanese mandalas. The exhibition will eventually provide international exhibition experience for invited Alphawood alumni.

A number of keynote lectures, including some by Alphawood alumni, will be streamed. These will be later edited for broad distribution via the SOAS-SAAAP page.

Further details on how to access event online will be posted here soon.
