Biography
Magdalena Grose-Hodge is a lecturer at SOAS and teaches Introduction to Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities on Foundation Year. She is also our Pre-sessional Coordinator and specialises in teaching English for Academic Purposes. Magda is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a member of the Cognitive Science Society and Slavic Linguistic Society. Her research interests include the acquisition of heritage languages and development of bilingualism and biliteracy. At the moment, she is investigating predictors of heritage language acquisition and focusing on the role of exposure, literacy, language aptitude and motivation. Her research is fully funded and undertaken in collaboration with the University of Birmingham and Friedrich Alexander University in Germany. She is also interested in online syllabus design and facilitating student engagement through the use of technology and blended learning.
