Community Fellow and alumnus featured in new Netflix series soundtrack

Reylon Yount, SOAS Community Fellow and alumnus in the Department of Music is featured in the soundtrack to the new Netflix series 1899, alongside performance teacher Beibei Wang.  

Reylon describes the sound as “Creepy flute screeches, harrowing Chinese drums, and spine-tingling yangqin tinkling.” 

Rachel Harris, Professor of Ethnomusicology, said:  

“Reylon and Beibei are both outstanding performers on traditional Chinese musical instruments who are taking their music in radical new directions, working solo and with the Chinese music collective Tangram.”  

Reylon also performed at the SOAS Festival of Ideas Sound and Vision event, performing in his alt-persona as Mantawoman.  

1899 is out on Netflix now.
