Festival of Social Science 2024: SOAS Impact Acceleration Account

SOAS will participate in the Festival of Social Science 2024 on the 7th and 8th November, as a recipient of the ESRC Impact acceleration award (IAA).

This ESRC-funded nation-wide festival is an annual celebration of social science research through public engagement activities. SOAS researchers are invited to conduct interactive activities and workshops on two themes:

  • Migration, marginalisation, displacement, and minorities, SOAS IAA’s thematic area
  • Our digital life, ESRC’s 2024 national theme for the festival

Targeted audience: 

  • Groups of 13-to-18-year-olds learning English as an Additional Language (EAL) are invited to SOAS to explore engagement activities designed by SOAS academics.
  • Teachers of EAL students are also invited to participate in workshops designed by partner organisations 

Public engagement opportunity 

The SOAS IAA team invites SOAS researchers and PhD students to propose public engagement activities linked to the festival's national theme of Our Digital Lives and/or SOAS' institutional theme of Migration, Marginalisation, Displacement and Minorities, and in so doing showcase their research work at the festival.

Key dates:

  • Deadline for applications: Tuesday 9 July
  • Engagement Training provided by ESCR (online): Register to attend
  • First session: Festival engagement: 9 July at 12:00pm, and
  • Second session: Practical planning and evaluation: 16 July at 12:00pm

The IAA team will be offer advice and support to all researchers and PhD students with the development of their activities. Budget will be provided to cover the cost of any materials required.
