New online scholarships announced for the SOAS-Alphawood Postgraduate Diploma in Asian Art

With the generous support of the Alphawood Foundation of Chicago, SOAS University of London is delighted to offer a set of new scholarships to enable students in Southeast Asia to study The SOAS-Alphawood Postgraduate Diploma in Asian Art online.

The online SOAS-Alphawood Postgraduate Diploma in Asian Art will, uniquely, enable students in Southeast Asia to stay in their home country and study remotely while completing this programme of object based learning.

It will be the first time at a UK university that Southeast Asian students of Asian Art have been offered such a scholarship. As such it will extend the reach of the SOAS-Alphawood Postgraduate Diploma in Asian Art to those that have an intense interest in Asian Art but cannot travel to London to study for a full academic year.

Unique features of the online Postgraduate Diploma in Asian Art

This programme is flexible, full-time and accessible via online/distance learning.

Students are led on a journey of exploration supported by lectures and contributions from a wide range of leading scholars, curators, and art market professionals. Our formal association with the British Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum allows exceptional access to the collections and curatorial expertise of both institutions, for a rich object-based approach.

The Alphawood Online Scholars’ learning will be supported by a range of bespoke, professionally produced videos, shot in situ at the museums we work with. Support will be via online platforms and technologies that allow students to engage deeply with the objects studied.

Students will augment the online experience with an intensive two-week summer school offering museum-based study in London (Asian Art in the Museum). For those unable to travel to London a fully online route to completion will be available.

Our programme will appeal to all those with a serious interest in Asian art, regardless of their  personal, professional or academic background. It is also a proven pathway to further postgraduate study in Asian art history, and to careers in museums, the commercial art world and academia.
