SOAS Law students win top places in nationwide contest
SOAS law students have much to celebrate as final year student Adithi Shetty recently won the British & Irish University Commercial Awareness competition (BIUCAC), and second year law student Alex Makesoski finished third.
Launched in 2020, the competition spotlights talented law students outside of Russell Group universities, to prompt top law firms to take a broader and more inclusive approach to graduate recruitment and transform hiring practices in within the sector.
Adithi won the top prize out of almost 2,500 non-Russell Group and Irish law students that signed up to BIUCAC 2024 – receiving professional mentoring and support from the legal firm White & Case. As well as first and third place, SOAS also had 10th and 26th place finishes for students Osman Ahmed and Harsimran Chohan.
Speaking on the opportunity, Adithi said: “The BIUCAC competition has been an incredible experience. It’s helped me build confidence in public speaking, apply what I’ve learned to real-world scenarios, and collaborate with other talented contestants.”
Congratulating the students, Professor Eddie Bruce Jones, Head of SOAS’s Schools of Law, Gender and Media added: “We are very proud of our students for taking part in this year’s BIUCAC competition. They represented themselves and SOAS very well, and their success is a testament to the hard work and academic strength of students here in the School of Law.”
The School of Law at SOAS is dedicated to legal systems and legal challenges of the developing world, with complementary strengths in human rights, international law and institutions, environmental law and international trade and commerce.
