SOAS University Challenge team reach round two of BBC quiz show

Last week – and for the first time in 6-years – SOAS made a return to BBC’s iconic University Challenge quiz show, taking on a team from the University of Oxford’s St Edmund Hall.

The famously challenging TV quiz has invited university students from across the UK for more than 60 years to answer questions on everything from history to science, literature to pop culture - before the buzzer, that is. After competing in try-outs at the SOAS Student Union, five SOAS students were successfully selected to be contenders on the show's latest series; Tom Hasler (captain), Ella Dorn, Janet Delves, Cameron Lambert and Lola Finch.

Answering questions on contemporary dance, vexillology and the fundamental doctrines of Buddhism, among others, SOAS gave close chase to St Edmund’s Hall, finishing with a score of 155.

The team will now progress to the next heat of the challenge, which airs on Monday 25 November. As they prepare to answer questions surrounding pop culture, history, science and everything in-between, we wish them the very best of luck.
