Research interests
Interests: Islamic law (generally). Specifically: Usul al-Fiqh (Islamic legal theory); Maqasid al-Shari’ah, and its role and development in the modern era and particularly al-Tahir bin ‘Ashur’s contribution; the Zahiri School of Law. Comparative aspects of Islamic law with human rights law and international humanitarian law. Fiqh al-mu’amalat al-maliyah (the jurisprudence of financial transactions).
Other related interests: Contemporary Islamic movements; the interplay between ethics and Islamic law.
