Yaerin Yoon

Yaerin is a PhD student in Development Economics at SOAS and is currently working as a Graduate Teaching Assistant for teaching Statistics and Econometrics modules. 

She obtained a BA in Economics with a minor in Global Environment Management at Seoul National University in South Korea. Yaerin holds two master's degrees: International Master of Rural Development (Ghent University, Belgium) and Master of Agricultural Economics (Seoul National University). Major research project during her graduate study was interdisciplinary work to develop an integrated assessment tool for adaptation policy by evaluating the costs and benefits of each strategy. 

Before joining SOAS, Yaerin worked for an environmental NGO and the Global Green Growth Institute to coordinate climate change projects for developing countries, such as distributing improved and high-efficiency cookstoves to low-income households or implementing fossil fuel subsidy reform in Saint Lucia. 

Her main areas of interest are climate change risk and impact analysis and agricultural development. Her research is focused on the multifunctionality of agricultural development related to green transition and sustainable and inclusive development. Her PhD thesis represents the socio-economic and environmental dynamics of agricultural development and industrialisation. She was awarded a Global Grant Scholarship by the Rotary Foundation for her PhD research.
