Biography

Aicha Belkadi is a Senior Teaching Fellow in Linguistics in the School of Languages, Cultures and Linguistics at SOAS, where she teaches syntax, semantics, morphology and sociolinguistics.

Her main research is on descriptive and formal linguistics but she is  also interested in language and cognition, linguistic impairments, multilingualism, and language policy and attitudes. Since 2018 she is a research assistant on the OWRI funded project 'Multilingualism and Language Learning'.

Research interests

Aicha's research expertise and main interests focus on descriptive and theoretical syntax (LFG, Minimalism, Construction Grammar, Functionalist syntax), lexical and cognitive semantics, syntax/semantics interface, linguistic typology, morphology, sociolinguistics, African linguistics, Berber languages esp. Taqbaylit (Afro-Asiatic), Australian languages, South American languages, motion and deixis, agreement, pronouns and clitics, lexical aspect and verbal semantics, TAM, information structure.
