Course overview
This SOAS Language Centre course in Intermediate Classical Tibetan is designed to give participants the ability to develop and refine their understanding of Classical Tibetan through Buddhist sources.
This course follows on from Beginners 3 but is also open to students who have experience of Classical Tibetan of a standard adequate to join this second-year course. The aim is to be able to gain a sound understanding of the linguistic features and doctrinal features and doctrinal positions of the texts read in class. Participants should also be able of independently reading and interpreting texts from related genres of Mahāyāna literature.
Method
The course is taught in English and Tibetan. Class size is limited to 16 to allow close involvement.

Course materials, if not supplied, are not included in the fee but can be purchased from SOAS bookshop bookshop@soas.ac.uk.

Entry requirements and progression route
Previous knowledge of the language is necessary to join Tibetan Intermediate. Participants will have completed Tibetan Beginners 1-3 at the SOAS Language Centre or gained equivalent experience elsewhere.
The progression route from Tibetan Intermediate 1 is to Tibetan Intermediate 2, and from Tibetan Intermediate 2 to Intermediate 3. Upon successful completion of Tibetan Intermediate 3, you will be advised by the tutor.
