This event will feature a discussion on the amendments to the now 27-year-old statute (and will focus on a few missed opportunities).

It will introduce the audience to the main provisions of the existing Arbitration Bill and how some of its changes have occurred since it was first presented by the Law Commission in 2023, and will focus in particular on the law applicable to the arbitration agreement and summary determination by tribunals.

About the speaker

Louis Flannery KC specialises in international arbitration and cross-border litigation (with a particular emphasis on fraud and conflict of law issues). He acts as counsel before major international arbitral tribunals and also regularly sits as arbitrator.

He has also acted as an expert witness on English arbitration law, in proceedings in USA, Australia, Luxembourg, Germany and Cyprus. Very recently, Louis has developed an expertise as a “Privilege Master”, assisting Tribunals with questions of privilege as an independent neutral.
