About this event
This talk sponsored by the SOAS Middle East Institute marks the new edition of the landmark seminal book The Arabs and the Holocaust, first published in 2010.
Professor Gilbert Achcar will discuss the enduring relevance of the long-standing conflicting narratives surrounding the Holocaust and the Nakba in the contemporary context of genocidal war. His book depicts the various Arab responses to the Holocaust, from the earliest intimations of the genocide, through the creation of Israel and the occupation of Palestine, and up to our own time, critically assessing the political and historical context for these responses.
About the speaker
Gilbert Achcar is SOAS Emeritus Professor of Development Studies and International Relations. He is the author of many books on the Middle East and North African and on International Relations. His forthcoming book, The Gaza Catastrophe: The Genocide in World-Historical Perspective will come out in the summer.
